Depth Sonar

Depth sonar are used to measure distance to the seafloor. Also known as sounders or sonar altimeters, depth sonar use active acoustics or echolocation to determine distance from an object or seabed. The instrument generates and receives high frequency signals, or pings, to measure depths up to 200m (650 ft). Sonar can be mounted to monitor bridge scouring and dredging/sediment transfer or used as a handheld/portable device in diving, boating, or hydrographic surveys.
