Side Scan Sonar

Side scan sonar is a method of seafloor imaging. Used in hydrographic surveys, side scan sonar can provide near photographic quality sonar images of the seabed by generating and receiving CHIRPs (Compressed High Intensity Radar Pulses). These sonar have a depth rating of 50m (164 ft.) and have a range up to 200m (640 ft.) total coverage. They can connect to any PC or field computer via USB, and the included software allows for real-time image captures and recordings. A GPS receiver is available to coordinate with the sonar and log GPS coordinates with the image data. Pulse frequencies vary from 450kHz to 1000kHz for the most defined images.
