Electrode Fill Solutions

The electrode fill solution is the part of the probe that makes measuring ions or pH possible. The internal solution provides the ionic specification needed to diffuse the chosen ion, and the resulting energy change is measured by the electrode. Refillable electrodes generally last longer because their fill solution can be replaced when electrode response becomes sluggish. It is necessary to periodically drain and refill sensing and reference electrodes to ensure fast response times and better stability.
