The Kestrel 5700AB Elite Weather Meter provides the full capabilities of the Applied Ballistics Elite ballistics solver along with accurate measurement of wind and air density to deliver elevation and windage solutions for unprecedented accuracy on extended long range shots.
Utilizing the full power of the Applied
Ballistics solver the Kestrel Elite is intended for shooters who want to
reach deep into the transonic and subsonic range.
The Kestrel Elite Weather Meter with Applied Ballistics takes the guesswork
out of long-range shooting, even out to the transonic and subsonic flight
range of your bullet.
This next-generation integrated weather meter and ballistics solver provides
the same trusted accuracy, reliability, and usability as the original
Kestrel 4500 with Applied Ballistics but adds many new features and options.
If you're familiar with the Kestrel 4500, the first thing you'll notice is
the larger, higher-resolution and contrast display and improved font
readability. The Kestrel 5 series also includes a built-in dual color
backlight, extra-strong polycarbonate lens and AA battery operation and
offers Link IOS and Android wireless connectivity and app support.
Like all Kestrel meters, the Kestrel Elite is drop-proof, dust-proof,
waterproof and able to withstand harsh environments without damage - so it
can accompany you to the range, hunt, match, deployment or engagement for
years to come. A range of carry pouch options makes it even easier to take
your Kestrel meter with you.
With the Kestrel Elite/Link you get the power of the free Kestrel Link
Ballastics app. Build and manage your gun/bullet profiles and download them
to your Kestrel Elite before you set out. Choose from the extensive Litz
library of custom bullet drag models for the most precise trans-sonic and
sub-sonic range solutions available anywhere. At the range or match, secure
your Kestrel Elite to a tripod using the optional Kestrel Vane Mount and use
the app to quickly adjust the target range and view the shooting solution
and wind rose without leaving your shooting position. The LiNK Ballistics
app even lets you set up multiple targets for single-screen viewing - just
about an unfair advantage! It's like having a meteorologist and ballistician
standing next to you while you shoot.
Link enabled units can also be wirelessly paired with LiNK compatible laser
range finders, such as the Bushnell Elite 1 Mile CONX, to seamlessly
integrate target data into the ballistic solution for unparalleled speed and
In addition to the ballistics solver capabilities, the Kestrel Elite is a
comprehensive weather meter for measurement and logging of primary
environmental conditions: wind speed and direction, temperature, humidity,
heat index, pressure and altitude. Paired with the Vane Mount, the Kestrel
Elite becomes a compact, easily-deployable weather station. Your data log
can be transferred to a mobile device wirelessly with the LiNK wireless
communication option and Kestrel LiNK app, or to a PC/MAC with either the
wireless USB Kestrel LiNK Dongle or waterproof USB Data Transfer Cable
Kestrel Link Ballistics for mobile
Android and iOS (coming soon) apps for gun profile management and target
engagement. Use your mobile device to quickly adjust target distance and
view shooting solution without leaving your shooting position.
Kestrel LiNK for mobile
Android (coming soon) and iOS apps put environmental information at your
fingertips with real-time remote data viewing on phones and tablets up to
100' away. Kestrel LiNK also provides easy data export, threshold alerts and
simple firmware updates.
LiNK wireless connectivity powered by Bluetooth Smart
Robust, easy connectivity to both iOS and Android mobile devices as well as
Windows and Mac computers. (Computers require optional Kestrel USB Dongle.)

Windows and Mac computers for fast data uploads and firmware updates.
Compatible with every model in the Kestrel 5 Series.
Sleek, rugged tripod vane mount
Small, secure, robust vane mount turns any Kestrel 5 Series meter into a
portable weather station that remains oriented into the wind. (Included in
some models where noted, otherwise sold as optional accessory.)
Large, high contrast screen
Easily readable text in almost any setting, including bright sunlight, with
more visible information on the screen at all times. This high-resolution
display is easy on the eyes, allowing you to get more information from
customizable user screens, charting and graphing options without causing eye
strain or fatigue.
Dual color backlight
Toggle backlight color between standard white and night-vision-preserving
red (NV). The red NV backlight features an optical wavelength selected to
help users sustain natural night vision and reduced brightness to avoid
detection during night maneuvers.

For decades, commercial fishing for yellow perch was allowed in southern Lake Michigan. This persisted until 1996 when it was outlawed, giving perch stocks there some time to recover. Scientists had for some time assumed that this fishing ban would not affect the reproduction cycles of the perch quickly and that they were going to need a long time to revert back to the cycles they relied on before commercial fishing ever started. But new research led by scientists at Purdue University finds that maturation schedules of yellow perch in southern Lake Michigan are much more resilient than had been previously thought possible.Read More
Largely seen as pristine and relatively untouched by human activity thanks to its protected status, the portion of the Colorado River flowing through Grand Canyon National Park is anything but, according to recently published research. This is evidenced by high levels of selenium and mercury found in the fishes there. Scientists from many institutions were involved in the years-long work, full results of which have been published in the journal Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry. It was led by the U.S. Geological Survey, but perhaps the contributors from Idaho State University got the best end of the stick. They were looking into the food webs of the river to evaluate concentrations of selenium and mercury gathering in fish.Read More
For all the straightforward groundwater monitoring applications that the folks at Heron Instruments help with, there are a few that are far from typical. These include projects that take place near remediation sites or not far from waste disposal operations. Realizing that customers working in those sorts of projects are in need of a more robust option, the company has released the dipper-Tough . The new water level meter takes inspiration from Heron’s popular dipper-T , while throwing in a host of improvements that environmental pros working in groundwater can really appreciate.Read More
