Details

Each message is stored using solid-state memory technology with simple data retrieval via a removable USB flash drive (purchased separately). Depending on the chosen USB flash drive memory size, a year or more of data can be stored. And you never have to worry about losing the most recent data because the VDR100 uses a circular buffer where the oldest data is overwritten only after the entire memory is filled.

Recorded vessel data can be used in many ways including performance analysis, vessel tracking, preventative maintenance, network diagnostics, warranty incident, and accident investigation, all in an effort to reduce operating cost and improve safety. As an example of how the recorded data might be used, consider an NMEA 2000® fuel flow monitor plugged into the network, which will provide a complete record of how much fuel was used and how fast it was used. With a GPS antenna/receiver plugged into the NMEA 2000® network, you will have a complete record of where the vessel has been including its speed and course over ground.

With the VDR100, you have a complete record of all the information produced by NMEA 2000® products connected to the vessel's network. And because the VDR100 is engineered and manufactured to the highest standards (IEC 60945 Maritime Navigation and Radio Communication Equipment), your data is safely protected in a compact waterproof housing.

  • Circular Buffer Preserves Latest Recorded Data while Oldest Data Overwritten when Memory is Full
  • Recorded Data Available for Performance Analysis, Vessel Tracking, Preventive Maintenance, and More
  • Optional Waterproof USB Flash Drive Cover
  • Free Data Extraction Software (N2KExtractor™) builds Comma Delimited Files for Data Analysis

USB Flash Drives
The USB Flash Drives are supplied by the user. Depending on how much data you wish to record without overwriting older data, the following table can be used to determine the capacity of the USB Flash Drive you need. These figures are estimated assuming a 25% loaded system (approx 463 frames/second).

Notable Specifications:

Lake Michigan Yellow Perch Bounce Back After Commercial Ban

For decades, commercial fishing for yellow perch was allowed in southern Lake Michigan. This persisted until 1996 when it was outlawed, giving perch stocks there some time to recover. Scientists had for some time assumed that this fishing ban would not affect the reproduction cycles of the perch quickly and that they were going to need a long time to revert back to the cycles they relied on before commercial fishing ever started. But new research led by scientists at Purdue University finds that maturation schedules of yellow perch in southern Lake Michigan are much more resilient than had been previously thought possible.

Colorado River Fish Contain Levels Of Selenium, Mercury

Largely seen as pristine and relatively untouched by human activity thanks to its protected status, the portion of the Colorado River flowing through Grand Canyon National Park is anything but, according to recently published research. This is evidenced by high levels of selenium and mercury found in the fishes there. Scientists from many institutions were involved in the years-long work, full results of which have been published in the journal Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry. It was led by the U.S. Geological Survey, but perhaps the contributors from Idaho State University got the best end of the stick. They were looking into the food webs of the river to evaluate concentrations of selenium and mercury gathering in fish.

Heron dipper-Tough Is Ready For Harsh Deployments

For all the straightforward groundwater monitoring applications that the folks at Heron Instruments help with, there are a few that are far from typical. These include projects that take place near remediation sites or not far from waste disposal operations. Realizing that customers working in those sorts of projects are in need of a more robust option, the company has released the dipper-Tough . The new water level meter takes inspiration from Heron’s popular dipper-T , while throwing in a host of improvements that environmental pros working in groundwater can really appreciate.
