PP4900-03 PowerPod Pre-Cut for Lowrance Elite-9 CHIRP

The PP4900 Series, PowerPods for Power are a better option than bracket mounting. PowerPods provide a clean look for flush mounting with the advantage of a swivel base.

The trunion bracket that is supplied with most electronics is not optimal. PowerPods have the advantage of protecting the back of the electronics from harsh saltwater spray. Most manufacturers do an excellent job of protecting the face of the display from water intrusion with sealed rubber push buttons. The back is generally not waterproof. They are expecting you to flush mount it into the console or a NavPod. The PowerPod also protects the plastic connectors and wires from deterioration caused by long term exposure to UV.

PowerPods for Sail are for mounting on a flat surface. Perhaps under the dodger or aft end of the cockpit table especially on boats with dual wheels.

The Hi-Gloss Material
  • NavPods are manufactured with a custom co-extruded acrylic capped ABS material. We use the absolute best UV resistant material that provides a very high gloss white finish that matches gel-coated fiberglass. The Gen3 enhancements now include a thicker gauge material that improves strength and provides for better structural rigidity.

The Waterproof Seal
  • All NavPods are manufactured with a double gasket system providing an excellent watertight seal between the front and back of the NavPod for protection of your Marine Electronics. NavPods are made to withstand the harshest of wet offshore boating conditions. Gen3 enhancements include a thicker external silicone gasket with improved flush fit. The internal EPDM gasket is now 50% thicker and is not subject to "compression set" like many rubber compounds. This is important when you need to open the NavPod in the future to service your electronics.

The Nickel Chrome Plated Screws
  • We use all stainless steel mounting hardware that is supplied with each NavPod. Large round head tamperproof screws have deeper sockets for the NavPod wrench for better holding ability when tightening than the previous screws. For Gen3 we provide nickel chrome-plated stainless steel tamperproof screws for security combined with a little bling!

The Manufacturing Process
  • Heavy-gauge thermoforming is considered an art since many processes come into play. It all starts with the design and development of the tooling. We are fortunate to have experienced in-house design engineers who utilize CAD programs like Solidworks, Catia and AutoCad. Surfcam is used to interface with our CNC machining centers to produce quality tools with precision tolerances.

Our Commitment to Quality
  • We are committed to producing the best possible waterproof housing for Marine Electronics. Now with two decades of experience under our belt, we are confident you will have years of trouble free service and a long lasting high gloss finish. We will stand behind our commitment by now offering a 10-year warranty on all new Gen3 NavPods.

Pulse Flow Brings Colorado River Delta Big Benefits

A few years ago, a pulse flow was released into the Colorado River Delta per Minute 319 of the U.S.-Mexico Water Treaty of 1944. The flow began March 23, 2014 and ended on May 18, 2014, pushing around 130 million cubic meters of water downstream. A few months after that, this magazine checked in with some of the scientists involved in monitoring the effects of the pulse flow. Investigators told us they had deployed more than 100 piezometers to study groundwater levels. Flow trackers were giving them discharge data and measurements on salinity were being gathered with conductivity probes. For gauging the impacts to waterfowl, the researchers were using stereos to send out mating calls while listening for responses. But there was so much more data collection underway than we knew.

Lake Erie Infographic

It’s pretty easy to find a Lake Erie infographic these days. And that makes sense, because the water body is an incredibly important one. We laid out some of the dynamics that make it that way in our most recent print edition, published in fall 2016 . Those include its shallow depth, a factor that makes it one of the most productive Great Lakes both for fish and algae. Another is the population surrounding Lake Erie. Did you know that the Erie watershed has nearly 12 million people? That makes it the most populated area of the region! In our latest edition, the Lake Erie infographic serves as a nice background for readers who may be unfamiliar with the lake. It also helps to introduce our coverage of Lake Erie’s western basin.

White Bear Lake Stands Out In Study Of Twin Cities Lakes

Following water level declines in lakes around the Twin Cities area of Minnesota, scientists at the U.S. Geological Survey were interested in identifying the cause. What they found along with that was a large degree of variability between the lakes, based on geology, elevation and land use. That there was such variation isn’t too surprising, as Mother Nature is far from neat in laying things out. But the sheer size and scope of the study has a nice way of underscoring just how different individual lakes can be from one another even if they sit nearby. The effort, looking at 96 different lakes around Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minn., found wide variation in water levels over time. Some lakes gained in water levels while others nearby saw them decline.
