The NexSens iSIC (Intelligent Sensor Interface & Control) is the latest in data logging technology. Specifically designed for remote environmental monitoring applications, the iSIC offers superior data acquisition performance in extreme conditions. NexSens customers expect reliability, and the iSIC data logger delivers unmatched sensor interface and data collection with options for cellular, radio, Ethernet, WI-FI, and satellite telemetry. Each iSIC data logger simultaneously supports 8 analog inputs & 4 digital inputs for multi-sensor data logging capability.

The iSIC data logger arrives ready for long-term deployment. All electronics are housed in a rugged, NEMA 4X enclosure constructed of heavy-duty fiberglass. The built-in 8.5 amp-hour sealed lead acid battery provides 12 volt power to the system, and the battery can be continuously charged using AC or solar power. Polymer-coated circuit boards, sealed connectors, corrosion-resistant stainless steel hardware, and built-in lightning protection ensure reliable performance in the harshest conditions. All sensors are cabled through Sealcon gland fittings to ensure protection from the elements.

NexSens iChart Software is a Windows-based program for interfacing both locally (direct-connect) and remotely (through telemetry) to an iSIC data logger or network of data loggers. The iChart Setup Device Wizard includes built-in drivers and a step-by-step interface for setting up and configuring remote monitoring sensors and systems. When connected, the user can quickly configure sample & log intervals, upload data, or troubleshoot communications.

Will my data be time stamped?
Yes, regardless of the sensor used, all NexSens data loggers will time-and-date stamp each dataset.
If I am away from my data logger, can I check the status?
iChart features an alarm that will notify persons via SMS text messaging or email of parameters exceeding pre-defined parameter limits. iChart sends the alarm when it receives data from a data logger via a telemetry system.
How many RS-232 ports does an iSIC datalogger have?
The NexSens iSIC datalogger has three RS-232 sensor ports with an optional three more available using the iSIC digital expansion (Digital-EXP) available under the Accessories tab.

NexSens AccuStage water level sensors are simple and durable

For monitoring water level and wave height, NexSens AccuStage water level sensors are durable, easy to use, and require little maintenance. Users can choose between titanium or stainless steel constructions. The sensors work by transducing water pressure into a millivolt charge, which can then be interpreted by data loggers as water level or wave height, depending on user needs. Two models of the sensor, vented or absolute, provide easy interfacing with NexSens iSIC or submersible data loggers. The sensors can communicate through Modbus RS485 or analog. “They’re used in streams and lakes most commonly,” said Kevin Stevens, product manager. “Many customers use deployment pipes, just to keep it more secure, and some also use conduit to protect the cable.

Ohio State University's experimental wetland research park seeks scientists

Ohio State University’s experimental wetland park sits nestled in a bend in the Olentangy River, where things are changing in Ohio’s capital city. The Wilma H. Schiermeier Olentangy River Wetland Research Park is in a rebuilding phase after the retirement of the original director, Bill Mitsch. He coordinated the construction of the wetlands, starting in 1992. Lynn McCready, interim director for the wetlands, is working to get more research underway at the facility. “Our primary focus of study will still be on the wetland ecology, but we do want to widen that focus to other aquatic ecosystems,” she said. The experimental wetland has opened its doors to scientists interested in doing research there.
