The 4088A has professional quality but made for personal communications with a compact short antenna with reliable communication range. The splash resistant construction is made for rugged outdoor use. Carrying 14 FRS channels and 38 group codes.
Different codes "split up" each of the 14 FRS frequencies. Also known as CTCSS, or Continuous Tone Coded Squelch System. Helps weed out unwanted contacts. Only signals containing your group code can open the squelch, keeping the radio quiet while monitoring for communications. To use a group code, agree beforehand with each of member of your party on which code to use on one of the 14 channels.
The 4088A has enhanced conversation privacy with a built-in voice scrambler. The antenna can be folded behind the radio when not in use. Can send up to ten different ring patterns letting you know the identity of your caller before taking the call.
The 4088A has 30 plus hours of talk time, a low battery indicator (alkaline power). Selectable lock feature maintains radio settings and auto power-off timer (two hours) to save batteries. An optional Ni-Cd power and charger is available for alternate power flexibility. An optional headset is available for hands-free operation along with an optional hand speaker-microphone available for additional customization.
