Details:
The YSI 9600 Nitrate Analyzer is a complete solution for in-situ monitoring of nitrate in lakes, rivers, estuaries, marshes, and more. At 28" tall and 13" in diameter, the YSI 9600 is a completely self-contained nitrate monitoring laboratory. Reagent bags are easily accessible, and the internal battery will power the instrument for approximately 30 days unattended with 1-hour sampling intervals.
The YSI 9600 allows the user to continuously monitor nitrate levels at a user-selectable sample interval and thus provides greater capability to detect nutrient events than spot sampling activities. NUviewTM software, provided with the system, allows easy set-up for most nitrate monitoring studies -- whether the nitrate levels at the site are expected to be typical (0-5 mg/L of nitrate-N) or high (5-10mg/L or nitrate-N).
To accurately measure nitrate, the 9600 uses flow injection analysis technology combined with a chemical reaction sequence, defined in literature from both the US EPA methods and Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater. The intensity of the color produced by the chemical reaction sequence is determined by standard absorbance spectroscopy and compared to that of a standard of known concentration in order to quantify the amount of nitrate in an environmental sample.
The 9600 will help professionals better understand the impacts of nutrients on their particular water resources. For example, the 9600 can be used to monitor downstream of Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFOs) or wastewater outfalls; it can monitor for watershed and total maximum daily load (TMDL) studies or impacted coastal environments.
