The Vaisala GM70 Handheld Carbon Dioxide Meter is a user-friendly meter for demanding spot measurements in laboratories, greenhouses, and field applications. The meter can also be used in HVAC and industrial applications and as a tool for checking fixed CO2 instruments.

The GM70 incorporates the advanced Vaisala CARBOCAP Sensor. The patented sensor has unique reference measurement capabilities. Its critical parts are made of silicon, giving the sensor outstanding stability over both time and temperature. In addition, the measurement accuracy of the sensor is not affected by dust, water vapor, or most chemicals.

The diffusion sensors short warm-up time makes the meter ready for use almost immediately. The menu-based interface is easy to use, and a graphical LCD display with internal data logger makes data management quick and convenient. The included MI70 Link Windows software with USB interface cable allows the user to upload data to a PC for further analysis.

The Vaisala GM70 handheld carbon dioxide meter has two probe inputs. This is a practical feature when checking probes against a calibrated probe. The user can also plug different probes into the display to quickly change the measurement range. Vaisala's relative humidity and dewpoint probes can also be connected and measured simultaneously.

What probes does the GM70 use?
The GM70 is compatible with the same probes as the Vaisala GMT220 series fixed CO2 instruments. These probes come in different ranges and are available under the Accessories tab.
What is the battery life of this meter?
The GM70 carbon dioxide meter can operate on battery power for over 8 hours. The NiMH 4.8 V battery is rechargeable and the GM70 comes with an AC charging unit.

Wind above forest canopies swirls as vortexes of air enter and exit stands of trees.  Across the globe, towers stand among the landscape, with sensors monitoring these eddies for carbon dioxide, water vapor and other gasses.  These so-called “flux towers” collect data on carbon dioxide exchange rates between the earth and atmosphere. Information gathered plays into the debate on the measurable effects of climate change. Carbon dioxide flows between the earth, atmosphere and ocean in an attempt to reach equilibrium. As automobiles and energy production facilities burn fossil fuels, more carbon dioxide joins to the mix.

Colorado River Fish Contain Levels Of Selenium, Mercury

Largely seen as pristine and relatively untouched by human activity thanks to its protected status, the portion of the Colorado River flowing through Grand Canyon National Park is anything but, according to recently published research. This is evidenced by high levels of selenium and mercury found in the fishes there. Scientists from many institutions were involved in the years-long work, full results of which have been published in the journal Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry. It was led by the U.S. Geological Survey, but perhaps the contributors from Idaho State University got the best end of the stick. They were looking into the food webs of the river to evaluate concentrations of selenium and mercury gathering in fish.
