The Zebra-Tech Turner Designs Cyclops-7 Hydro-Wiper is a mechanical wiper system designed to fit easily to the Turner Designs Cyclops-7. Using a regular gentle brushing action, the Hydro-Wiper keeps the optical window of the Turner Designs Cyclops-7 clean from bio-fouling and other unwanted deposits such as mud. The Hydro-Wiper reduces the need for costly site visits to manually clean the instrument, maintaining data integrity throughout long deployments.

How do I fit my Hydro-Wiper into the instrument clamp?
Insert the sensor into the clamp, with the optical window facing directly away from the wiper housing. With the Hydro-Wiper switched off, the brush arm can be manually moved to check for correct positioning. Tighten the clamp set screw to secure the sensor into the clamp.
What is the difference between the self-contained and the data-logger controlled hydro-wipers?
The self-contained Hydro-Wiper models include a 1m cable, control electronics, diagnostic LED, wipe interval switch and 6 user-replaceable alkaline batteries. The data logger controlled Hydro-Wipers have MCBH-6-MP bulkhead connector. Cables for this model are available under the accessories tab.

The world is an unpredictable place full of fouling and entanglements that can send just about anyone astray. Water quality data too can be severely compromised by unforgiving conditions and unpredictable events. John Radford, Zebra-Tech’s founder, learned firsthand how fouling could degrade data quality to the point of being unusable. “Whilst working for the National Institute of Atmospheric Research in New Zealand, we had constant issues trying to make long-term measurements of suspended sediment concentrations in shallow coastal water,” he said. “Fouling of the sensors between site visits caused fatal degradation of the data quality. Attempts were made to develop a method for mathematically correcting the data, but these were unsuccessful.
