NASA\u2019s Aqua satellite glimpsed the first major storm of the Eastern Pacific hurricane season off the coast of Mexico, NASA reported.<\/p>\n

Amanda is the first named storm of the 2014 hurricane season. The tropical cyclone grew into a Category 4 hurricane over the Memorial Day holiday weekend. With sustained winds reported near 155 miles per hour, Amanda is the strongest recorded May hurricane.<\/p>\n

Amanda has already weakened to a tropical storm. National Hurricane Center forecasters project that the storm could become a tropical depression by Friday, May 30.<\/p>\n
