It achieves the milestone by relying mostly on wind and solar for its power.<\/p>\n<p>Built by the International Polar Foundation, the Princess Elisabeth sits on the ridge of Utsteinen Nunatak in eastern Antarctica. It is equipped with mobile labs, ice drilling equipment and skidoos for towing heavy gear.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to supporting scientific research for scientists the world over, the station will also be used by the International Polar Foundation to educate people about polar research and its role in climate change.
