The Summer 2015 print edition of the Environmental Monitor is on the way to subscribers this month. Our quarterly print editions feature the best of the Monitor\u2019s online content and update stories with new graphics. In the process of putting together the magazine, we also throw in new content including infographics, featured photos and a roundup of all the latest monitoring gear.<\/p>\n

A series of stories in this issue follows research and science on the Ohio River, a waterway that has been incredibly important to the country\u2019s history yet ranks among the nation\u2019s most polluted. Stories include a look at ORSANCO, the interstate agency that monitors water quality on the river, and an effort to estimate chlorophyll concentrations with Landsat 8 satellite data.<\/p>\n

You\u2019ll also read about the tenth anniversary of the Global Lakes Ecological Observatory Network, which links instrumented lakes and the scientists who study them. This issue\u2019s system description lays out the data buoy system that the Niagara Region of Ontario is using to pursue swimming advisories based on real-time data.<\/p>\n

In addition to those featured items, the Summer 2015 edition of the Monitor has an update on the spread of invasive emerald ash borer, which has just been found to affect tree species related to ash borer.
