The camera is expected to aid in tracking greenhouse gas emissions in the future and may also help address questions scientists have been trying to answer concerning methane emission sources and sinks in the environment. <\/p>\n<p>The camera allows detection, measurement and filming of methane on a small scale not previously possible. The 35-kilogram device is an advanced hyperspectral infrared camera that measures the same radiation known to be absorbed by methane. It can be used to measure methane emanating from livestock, sewage sludge deposits, combustion processes, lakes and other sources. <\/p>\n<p>Every pixel in the camera\u2019s images contains a high-resolution spectrum so sensitive that methane can be separated from other gases.
