A new agreement between the International SeaKeepers Society and the Scripps Institution of Oceanography will allow researchers from the institution to use society members\u2019 yachts as research vessels, according to a release from Scripps. The partnership will help to advance ocean science while helping to reduce research costs.<\/p>\n

The agreement calls for SeaKeepers members to tap into its database of yachting vessel owners and list those who are interested in volunteering their crafts for marine research or exploration. When a Scripps scientist needs to use one, a match will be made from there.<\/p>\n

The roots of the agreement were planted some five years ago, when officials at Scripps and the SeaKeepers began discussing what such a partnership could look like. With the new collaboration, Scripps scientists say that those who volunteer their yachts are assisting in research as citizen scientists and may very well help to make new discoveries. <\/p>\n
