Following the launch of an online data center, information from the Ocean Observatories Initiative (OOI) is now available to web visitors. Data from the University of Washington\u2019s Cabled Array, the only array of the network connected directly to the internet, are displayed on the site 24 hours a day, seven days a week.<\/p>\n
Besides U. of Washington\u2019s Cabled Array, the OOI includes more than 830 instruments spread across seven hubs throughout the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. These are logging more than 100,000 types of data covering the conditions within the air-to-sea interface, in the water column itself or near the seafloor.<\/p>\n
The OOI Data Portal opened in January 2016. Since that time, its data offerings have steadily increased. Students around the world can use the data. Researchers involved are also looking to leverage them to answer complex questions covering the activities of deep-sea tectonics, lifeforms that live near hydrothermal vents and how fisheries benefit from nutrient-rich upwelling. <\/p>\n
