Details

The Sealite SL-15 compact LED marine light is an exceptional value and incorporates some of the most advanced technology available. In the tradition of Sealite lanterns, the SL-15 is designed to be maintenance-free and have a service life of over 5 years.

The SL-15 can be installed in minutes, once the flash code is set, no operator intervention is required.

During daylight hours the solar module will charge the replaceable battery, and the lantern will automatically begin operation at dusk. The SL15 features the Sealite LED 360 Omni Directional Reflector, which increases the intensity and uniformity of the horizontal output.

The tough polycarbonate lens is specifically designed for use with LEDs, and has an environment-friendly spike deterring unwelcome bird life. The unit is sealed using an advanced ultrasonic weld, enabling a rugged waterproof seal capable of prolonged and deep immersion (IP68)

Revolutionizing Conventional Solar Water Evaporation With Hydrogels

Saline water—classified as having more than 1,000 ppm of dissolved salts —can be made into freshwater through desalination. The process is typically fueled by the sun, or by some other power source heating the water; after the heat energy turns the saline water into steam, one captures the steam, and then distills it back into water as it cools and condenses. On a small scale, such as that of an individual-sized still, it's a simple, rain-inspired process, albeit a slow one. Large-scale methods are available, but to be practical, these technological processes have to remain on a massive scale, and any way you slice it, they are energy-intensive, costly, and require large-scale facilities.

Stripers, Skilletfish and Sondes: Jacques Cousteau NERR Serves Up Vast Research Possibilities

Stretching over 116,000 acres, only approximately one percent of which has been developed, the Jacques Cousteau National Estuarine Research Reserve (JC NERR) offers a large, pristine area on coastal New Jersey unlike any other. It is not only a haven for fish, birds and other wildlife, it is also a haven for researchers. Surrounded by highly populated developments in an area with prime real estate, JC NERR offers a glimpse back to a time when New Jersey was wild and untouched. “Our program here is very much place-based,†says Gregg Sakowicz, Field Researcher at Rutgers University and System Wide Monitoring Program (SWMP) Coordinator at JC NERR. “We have the support of the local community, regional representation and also a national database.

Subtleties of Submarine Groundwater Discharge and Coral Reefs

Coral reefs are among the world's most diverse ecosystems , home to about one-third of all oceanic species of fish, and tens of thousands of marine species in total. Coral reefs are also valuable to humans, sheltering coastal areas from storms and offering billions in food and income all over the world. Unfortunately, many reefs have been permanently damaged or destroyed, and of those that remain, about 75 percent are threatened. Those reefs that lie very close to shore, nearshore coral reefs, are in many ways the most important to humans—and the most imperiled.
