One dissolved oxygen 1 powder pillow and one dissolved oxygen 2 powder pillow are added to a sample in a 60 mL BOD bottle. After inverting the bottle to mix the powder, a flocculent will form. If oxygen is present, an orange-brown color will be present. Once flocculent settles, add one dissolved oxygen 3 powder pillow. After inverting the bottle, the flocculent will dissolve and, if oxygen is present, a yellow color will appear.
